Tanner Dance Building, University of Utah
Programming and Conceptual Design
Muir Architects assisted with the programming and conceptual design of the Tanner Dance Building at the University of Utah.
The facility was designed to support a range of creative and instructional activities, including administrative offices, art studios, and costume fabrication spaces. Central to the building are four large dance studios featuring maple sprung floors and floor-to-ceiling windows along the south elevation, providing abundant natural light at each level.
Each studio is fully equipped with ballet barres and 8-foot mirrors to support instruction and performance. The second-floor studio also incorporates a black box theater with retractable seating, a grand drape, and integrated theatrical lighting, allowing the space to transition seamlessly between rehearsal and performance.
