Architect & FounderPrescott Muir, FAIA
After starting the firm as an all too young architect in 1976, Prescott has recently overseen with the help of a select group of colleagues and friends, the rebirth of the firm as Muir Architects. Like any good habit, he can’t let go because he loves working with and listening to new and returning clients and helping them realize their aspirations. The goal is to rededicate the firm to design excellence in all its myriad forms and nuanced meanings. As much, it’s extending the impact of one project to reinvigorating, adding new meaning and strengthening diverse communities.
Prescott has built an award-winning career as a designer, writer, educator and mentor to several generations of architects. He has received many design awards and publications including authoring the monograph “It By Bit”. In recognition for his design excellence, he was elevated to the prestigious College of Fellows in the American Institute of Architects. You may be interested in the AIA Utah podcast, Legends of Architecture, where he characterizes the richness in these experiences. Though the value of recognition cannot hold a candle to the satisfaction from giving back through teaching and mentoring others. Understanding this he just recently stepped down as Emeritus Faculty at the School of Architecture at the University of Utah where he served as its Director for twelve years.
Prescott’s experience includes urban design and design in critical urban nature interface zones, nature preserves, museums, theatres, galleries, libraries, city halls, affordable and transition housing, and new community development. He is energized by the insightful perspective of these new clients and their desire to make the world a better place by adding to and altering the built environment through precise and discrete designs. The firm will focus on opportunities to engage with diverse communities, leveraging their uniqueness in order to provide more resilient and sustainable futures.
