Weber County Library Southwest Branch

Roy, Utah

Anticipating the evolving role of libraries, Weber County Libraries developed a new Headquarters Library in Roy, Utah, envisioned as a flexible civic hub serving a broad and diverse community. The 45,000-square-foot facility integrates traditional library functions with a range of community-focused amenities, including a black box theater, public gallery, multipurpose rooms with a catering kitchen, conference spaces, a cyber café, and dedicated children’s and youth areas, as well as a secured reading garden featuring indigenous plantings and xeriscaping.

Many of the public amenities are accessible beyond standard library hours, allowing the building to function as both a library and a community venue. Designed to meet LEED Gold standards, the project incorporates passive solar strategies, extensive daylighting, regionally sourced materials, flexible planning, and high-efficiency building systems.

A central, daylit reading space anchors the design, opening seamlessly to a south-facing porch and amphitheater. The result is a sustainable and adaptable facility that supports community life and evolving user needs well into the future.
