Michigan Ave. Residence, Salt Lake City
A professional couple found a neglected house in an inner-city neighborhood. Anticipating growing old in this house, the primary living area needed to be on one floor adjacent to the garage. The old house being too small was removed leaving just the first floor that became a podium for the new living area that cantilevers over it.
The roof is inclined to respond to optimum solar angles for solar panels while affording high ceilings and windows that face the gully on the north side of the house. The street side provides a series of landscape filters and baffles and deeply recessed windows to optimize privacy. Reflective of the neighborhood, the main floor is clad in brick that decomposes into glass brick at cantilevered areas.
