Muir Architects is an architecture and urban planning firm with offices in Salt Lake City and Jackson, Wyoming. In an era of disconnectedness and uncertainty, our clients are drawn to the legitimacy of our firm with deep roots and commitment to a place and the community it has fostered. The firm’s founder, Prescott Muir is part of the fifth generation to live amongst the mountains of the Intermountain Western. Authenticity and understanding grows from the accretions of time and weather acting upon the land and suggests the need to take a light approach towards building upon it.

While buildings should be smart, and resiliently adapt to new technologies, we expect our designs to do no less than uplift our spirits and enhance the experience of coming together in the here and now.  We believe design solutions are found in the unique situation of combining each client’s aspirations with the particular attributes  of a site, environmental and cultural time.

To commemorate our fiftieth-year anniversary, the firm has streamlined its name to Muir Architects inviting a renewed sense of curiosity and spirit of collaboration with our clients. Together, we endeavor to seek out the exceptional found in the everyday inhabitation of landscapes and buildings.

SERVICES

Muir Architects is a nationally recognized architectural firm based in Salt Lake City. For the last fifty years, Prescott Muir has built an award winning career as a designer, writer, educator and mentor to several generations of architects, planners and designers. Though the firm has considerable experience, recently with Thomas Morahan, Lisa Arnett and other key personnel, the firm was reorganized to enable a more targeted focus on community engaged and socially relevant projects. The emphasis of the work has been on housing for the socially disadvantaged, neighborhood development and sustainable practices that are as much aspirational as meeting regulations. It’s an approach that welcomes innovation and social regeneration.
