Holocaust Memorial at the Jewish Community Center
Salt Lake City, Utah
Adjacent to the Jewish Community Center in Salt Lake is an outdoor Holocaust Memorial designed by architect Wendy Joseph. The Price family, who endowed the memorial, sought to enclose the exhibit to improve its protection from the elements and enhance the educational experience. To preserve the park's bucolic setting and distinguish the memorial from the community center, the design features a green wall and roof. Discrete windows and skylights highlight the exhibit and the ramp leading into the existing memorial. The surrounding ramp offers both a sequential display and an overview of the memorial. From within, the roof structure suggests an Etz Chaim emerging from below.
