Film & Media Arts Building and Gittins Gallery

University of Utah

Muir Architects provided master planning, programming, and interior renovation for the University of Utah Film and Media Arts Building, transforming an existing campus facility into a contemporary digital arts environment. The project included a comprehensive upgrade of all building systems, along with seismic improvements to meet current performance standards. Lynk MEP, in collaboration with Muir Architects, has provided acoustical design, MEP integration, and technical system evaluation services across multiple phases of the Film & Media Arts Building (FMAB).

The renovated building now supports a diverse range of academic and research programs, housing offices for the Dean of the College of Fine Arts, the Cinema Department, and USTAR researchers. Program elements include state-of-the-art production and teaching facilities, a 90-seat flexible black box theater, a 70-seat screening room, a digital animation classroom, offices for the Center for Interdisciplinary Arts and Technology, a working sound stage, screening rooms, digital labs, and a student commons area for gathering and collaboration.
