Emigration Canyon Residence, Utah

Emigration Canyon is the famous canyon by which the Mormon wagon train entered the Salt Lake Valley. It consists of a series of rolling mountain sides with a view overlooking the valley below. The residence provides sheltered privacy behind discretely located native landscape and yet rises above for stunning views across the canyon.

Each element of the house is positioned as a view finder towards corresponding peaks while embracing the sun on cold winter days. The house utilizes ground concrete floors to take advantage of passive solar heating. An arced roof over the circulation corridor at the back of the house further captures natural light projecting it into the darker portions of the house.
